Plan a compact toilet room logically, without guesswork.

A toilet room is small but technically demanding. A few fixed points determine whether it feels comfortable. Check these before ordering fixtures.

THE SHORT ANSWER

There is no single universal minimum size for every toilet room. For access to a prescribed toilet room in Dutch new construction, the Bbl requires at least 0.85 m clear passage; that is not automatically the room width. Also check the door, WC, basin, concealed frame and clear usable space.

Begin with access and the door

Draw the door fully open and check the area outside the room as well. A direction that saves space inside must not create a collision or unsafe situation outside.

Also mark any radiator, ventilation, light switch and boxed-in pipes.

Include the full installation

A wall-hung toilet is more than the visible bowl. The frame, cistern and finishing determine the total depth, while the drain position affects feasibility.

Use the technical data for the selected system and have its support and wall construction checked.

Give the hand basin a logical position

Place the hand basin where it remains reachable without narrowing the route. Check that hands, tap and door do not conflict and where water and drainage can run.

An access rule and a product size are not the room size.

The Bbl dimension below concerns clear access to prescribed toilet rooms in Dutch new construction; it is not automatically the room width. The second dimension is one ceramic WC only. Check which rules apply to your building and allow separately for installation and usable space.

An outward-opening door can preserve space inside, but the area outside must remain safe and practical. Assess the direction for the specific home.

Is a wall-hung toilet always space-saving?

Where should the hand basin go?

Choose a reachable position that does not block access to the toilet. Check the tap, drainage, splash area and room to wash hands comfortably.

Can I reuse a compact toilet plan?

Yes, as a reference for layout and proportion. Real connections, wall construction and product sizes must be checked separately before building.
